exactly what makes me tick

I was born and raised in central Iowa and have always had a strong interest in design. Starting with crayons, like everyone else, I expanded my motor skills. Once into high school I embraced the ability to take elective classes that I found interesting – Photography, Graphic Design, and Multimedia classes.

I found that I loved Graphic Design so much that I took an advanced individual study class my senior year. After this class, I knew Graphic Design was the path for me. During the same school year, I won awards at two different art shows for my work. See my portfolio.

I am currently a Senior at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls studying Graphic Communications, and I will be graduating in May 2010. I take a strong focus on applying design techniques on printed pieces with Graphic Design classes in the Art Department. I work on campus as a Student Digital Designer in the Production House designing web pages for different university departments, colleges, programs, and student groups. After graduation, I hope to get a job working with what I love to do: Print and Web Design.

I would describe myself as a self-motivated individual that always goes above and beyond. I take every opportunity presented to me to take my design skills to the next level. I push myself to the limits to be the best designer I can be. I stay up-to-date by following many online resources such as The Behance Network, Smashing Magazine, and Abduzeedo.

Aside from Graphic Design, I also have a strong interest in photography. In 2006 my photo titled "Reflections of Liberty" won an Honorable Mention Award at the Iowa State Fair. I have experience developing Black and White prints in a dark room, as well as developing color prints in a professional photo lab. Some of my photos are available in my portfolio.
